🔧 Master Your Layers: Base vs. Detail — What to Choose and Why

When you start a project in Pocket Styler Studio, it’s important to think ahead.

Will you be working with these shapes again in future projects?

If yes, it’s worth deciding early on:

  • Which parts are better kept as the base layer,
  • And which are best created as details (sublayers).

Here’s why 👇

🧩 What’s the main difference?

The base layer is part of the object’s main shape.

You can edit it only by moving the points, changing the contour precisely.

This gives you maximum accuracy but requires patience and precision.

A detail (sublayer) is created separately using the Details tab.

It offers more flexibility:

When you turn off the point mode in Layers, Transform mode activates.

In this mode, you have access to:

🔄 Rotation (yellow arrow)

↔️ Scaling (white squares)

🔃 Skew (yellow arcs)

💡 Tips:

✔ If you often plan to copy projects or create variations — use details.

✔ If you need to fit an element with maximum precision — the base layer with points works better.

✔ Think ahead: which parts you want to edit manually, and which — with one quick move.

🎩 Example: The Hat

I often return to the same template.

I’m quite happy using the crown (tulya) as the base layer — it’s easy to adjust with points.

But I always create the brim as a detail. It’s much easier this way:

  • You can quickly change the shape,
  • Move the whole element at once,
  • Adjust the scale without editing each point manually.
