💡 How to Create the Illusion of Transparent PVC (Plastic)

Want to design clear boots, bags, or skirts that look like real vinyl or PVC? In Studio, you can mimic the glossy, thick look of plastic with just a few clever tricks.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

✅ Step 1: Draw the Shape Using a Solid Brush

Start with a new layer and use a solid brush to create the base shape — boots, a skirt panel, or a bag. Choose a very light color (white, pale gray, or bluish) and set the opacity to 10–30%. This creates the see-through effect.

Step 2: Add Glossy Highlights

On a new brush layer, add sharp white highlights to simulate reflections. Use thin curved or straight lines, following the shape of the item. Don’t overdo it — a few crisp lines will sell the effect.

Step 3: Show the Edges for Thickness

Plastic is not weightless. To add dimension, draw a faint white outline inside the shape — slightly more opaque. This gives it that “thick plastic” edge.

Step 4: Let the Clothes Show Through

The magic of PVC is seeing what’s underneath. Keep this layer on top of your outfit or skin layers, and adjust opacity so parts of the body or clothes are clearly visible behind the plastic.

💡 Extra Tips:

  • For bags, add shiny straps or seams.
  • For boots, leave space for the sole or heel below.
  • Don’t make it too transparent or too pale — use a balance of light color + sharp highlights for best results.

Want to create iconic clear pieces? Try it with accessories or skirts first — and don’t forget to play with light!
