Adding a Metallic Edge to a Bag

This post will explain how to add a metallic detail to a bag. I’m going to start with a bag I made for another post that already had customized shadows and glare:

Now I’m going to add a circle that will be a metallic edge around the whole trim of the bag. I’m going to use the shapes to do this. While in “Lower Part” on the left, select the tee shirt icon on the left, then “Details.” For this detail I’m going to use the circle that’s on the top left:

Then expand the circle to the same size as the bag, but leave some of the original color showing on the front side:

Then select the metallic color for the bag. For this I’ll use grey to get to a silver look:

Then add a hole to the circle to have the bag show through, since this metallic edge is supposed to go around the bag, not over it. Add a whole while in the “Shape” by going to the pencil icon > “Details” > “Holes,” and choosing the circle. Then make the shape larger and position it to show the grey circle most on the right, and cover it on the left where the edge would go behind the bag.

Now we want to add shine to the grey circle to get to a metallic look. First I’ll add a dark shadow. While in the shape, click “Shadow,” then go to the pencil icon on the left, click on “Brush,” and paint a dark shadows on the grey part only:

Next go into the “Eraser” and clear out some of the dark shadows on the grey circle to provide some contrast:

Let’s complete this look by adding a metal clasp to the top. Add an invisible square over the bag by going to “Lower Part” > pencil icon > “Details,” then click the dotted box in the second row. Then go into “Decor” > “Items” and select a detail that you want to use as the clasp.

Now our bag has a metallic trim with a matching clasp! You can also play with other bronze or gold colors to get different metallic looks 😊
