Creating Shiny Sequins

Sequins is a fabric type available to us in pocket styler studio. There are also often events with sequins as a requirement. When I first started using sequin as a fabric type, I was frustrated at how it lacked the shine that real-life sequins have. After playing around with it, I realized it’s not hard at all to make the sequins sparkle.

For these pants, I wanted to create sparkly sequins on these side panels that I added.

This is what the fabric looks like without anything added:

With my panel selected, I’m going to right-click on brush, and select “new”. I’m going to do this three  times because I will need three different brushes to create the sequin effect.

For the first brush, I’m going to select a color that is darker than the sequin fabric panel I already have created, I select the color of the sequin panel and then pick a hue slightly below it.

Now, using the right-hand panel, I will navigate to the brush selection.

I want the sequin brush preset, and I want it to be pretty small. I am using a size 4 brush, but I will use anywhere from size 1-8 depending on the area I’m working on.

Then, I increase the scatter so that I can paint them on in a non-uniform way, then just brush it on, not too clustered and not too far apart. This darker color gives us contrast with our sequins.

For brush 2, I am going to select a mid-range color that is close to the color of the sequin panel. I don’t want it dark, but I don’t want it light, yet.. I am picking a color slightly lighter than the original sequin color.

Then, I will do the same thing as with brush 1, scatter these small sequins throughout the panel:

For the third brush, I am going to select the color white. I am going to keep the same sequin brush and also scatter loosely throughout. After previewing, I thought it looked too light, so I turned the opacity down a little bit. As you are doing each step, I suggest clicking on the green play button to view how it will look in game and tweak as you go. Sometimes you will want something to look lighter or darker, depending on your preference.

I am adding a fourth brush and I’m now going to select this star/sparkle brush, also in white, in a size 5, and make the scatter and spacing close to 100.

Do the same thing, scatter loosely throughout the panel.

After adjusting the opacity, colors, and adding/removing sparkles, this is what I have now – and I love the look of these sequin pants now!

After finishing all the panels and adding sparkle to my star design at the bottom, this is the finished product, and I love it!
