how to create a lace effect on your garment

For anyone wanting to create a lace pattern layer, here is a short tutorial on how to achieve that in the Studio Tool

step 1: create your garment

step 2: use an invisible detail item for your lace pattern overlay

step 3: go to Pattern and pick your “lace” pattern you want to use and its color

step 4: use the transform option on the pattern choices to adjust the size of the pattern print/shape/orientation.  Also use the points and lines to adjust the shape of the invisible detail into whatever shape you need it to be

step 5: if you want to have a shadow underneath the pattern to give the lace some dimension then “copy as brush” the pattern

step 6: the light color lace is above as a brush, now your pattern needs to be adjusted to a dark shadow color underneath, and then use the transform tool to move the pattern to peek out under the lighter pattern

additional tips:

if you want this to be less of a flat texture, then consider using an incredibly low opacity and flow eraser and erase come of the edges of the “brush pattern” layer so the dark part bleeds thru a bit giving an illusion of shadow

additionally think of this pattern in three tones of the same color: a light bright, a mid and a dark shadow. Alternate between each area you want to make a shadow and which part you want to be a highlight and erase those zones manipulating the layer colors

this can be especially fun when trying to achieve an ombre lace effect as well, just erase lightly instead
