✨ Shoe Symmetry Mistake ✨
(A tip for beginners and beyond)
This mistake often appears not only among beginners but also among experienced designers. Over time, however, most notice it and start correcting their work.
🔹 What’s the issue?
When creating shoes, it’s important to remember that the model’s legs are not symmetrical:
the front leg is slightly turned,
the back leg stands straighter, more parallel.
If you draw them identically — as if both feet are facing front — it creates a mistake.
🔹 What usually happens
Because of this, the heels on the left and right foot should look different.
But many designers make them identical — drawing the same heels and adding the same shadows. They also duplicate shadows on the shoe body, even though on the front leg we see the outer side, while on the back leg we see the inner side.
👉 As a result, the shoes look as if one leg is being “twisted.”
🔹 Why the difference matters
If you study the base shoes in the game carefully, you’ll notice:
on the front leg, the heel and shape are slightly angled,
on the back leg, the shape stays more straight.
This difference may seem subtle on a flat outline, but it makes the shoes realistic and natural.
🔹 How to practice spotting the mistake
1. Open the game and examine the base shoe models — the designers clearly show how the heels are placed differently.
2. When working on the front leg:
temporarily hide the Right Upper layer,
enable the model grid,
carefully check the foot’s position.
3. When working on the back leg:
hide all layers for the right leg,
leave only the left one visible,
observe how it’s placed and how the heel should be drawn.
Tip for Beginners on Base Heels
In the base heels tab, it’s not always obvious that some heels should be slightly rotated — especially if they don’t have shadows yet.
Certain heel shapes already appear angled. When you switch to point mode, it’s easy for beginners to accidentally make them symmetrical and lose the sense of perspective.
Pay attention to the original direction of the heel and try to keep that angle when editing.

By paying attention to these details, your shoes will look natural, three-dimensional, and professional.
