🧵 Hat Sequins: Method 2 — Pattern Grid + Brush Shine

In this post, I’ll show you the second way to create sequin effects — using a built-in grid pattern. It’s perfect when you need to quickly mimic a lot of tiny sequins.

🖤 I’m using the same black hat, and the sequins will be light-colored again.

1️⃣ In the Details tab, create a new sub-layer element.

This will be our ribbon — place it where you want to add the sequins.

2️⃣ Set the Fabric property to a gray color.

Choose a light gray or metallic tone to create a neutral base for the pattern.

3️⃣ Go to the Pattern property and select the built-in grid texture.

It looks like a dotted mesh — I’ll include a screenshot of the pattern.

4️⃣ Scale the pattern down.

This makes the grid tighter and more sequin-like.

5️⃣ Add deformation to the edges.

Slightly curve or shape the ribbon edges to give it a more dynamic and realistic look.

6️⃣ Add a shadow.

Darken underneath the patterned layer to create depth.

7️⃣ Create a new Brush layer.

Draw small white dots of varying sizes on top of the ribbon — these will simulate light reflections.

✨ I like this method because it’s clean and gives a nice textured look. It’s also quick .
