Hello everyone!❤️
Even I often have difficulty with shading my designs. Unfortunately, shading leather is still not my strong point, even though I know how to do it. It is difficult, but proper shading and contrast are important if we want to make the materials look lifelike. I will try to help you with some tips.
Denim👖
This is one of the easiest materials to shade. The denim materials provided in the studio are great, I mostly use the first two.
🖤Shadow: use dark, not bright colors.
🤍Glare: make it medium shiny, don’t have very shiny parts. Of course, in reality there are glittery, shinier denim materials, but in general, jeans are not shiny.
🪡Details: the stitching lines make the denim fabric look truly lifelike
Leather👞
Making leather items is one of the hardest, at least for me😅 I would be happy if some more talented designer than me would make a tutorial about this🙏
🖤Shadow: deep dark colors, lots of shadows.
🤍Glare: medium-high shine. Thinner but defined lines.
Faux Fur🦊
I will make a separate tutorial on fur material.
Sequin🪩
I will make a separate tutorial about this as well, but in general it can be said that it is a very shiny, glittery material.
Cotton🧶
Cotton material is also similar to denim. It makes it more lifelike if you use one of the cotton materials provided in the studio.
🖤Shadow: less shadowy, not very contrasting material. The shadow color is not very bright.
🤍Glare: Barely shiny, very matte material. You don’t need much glare on it.
Silk👗
Silk is a good choice for making dresses, ponchos, and skirts. Ruffles and pleats make it even more lifelike.
🖤Shadow: a highly contrasting, dark but brightly colored shadow.
🤍Glare: very bright, narrow streaks of light along the pleats.
Suede👛
Rarely used material. Can be a good choice for elegant, more upscale designs.
🖤Shadow: heavily shaded, matte, not brightly colored shadow.
🤍Glare: very slightly shiny, no strong light lines even at the folds.
Wool🐑
Thick, dull material. A great choice for coats.
🖤Shadow: A less contrasting, more matte colored shadow.
🤍Glare: no glare
Synthetic🩱
Synthetic materials can be of many types, but there are some common characteristics that can be considered in general.
🖤Shadow: moderately strong shading, even dark but with bright colors.
🤍Glare: Often a shiny, even shimmering material. Can be highly glossy
It is also important to remember that it will never be lifelike if you do not shape the material with distortion. The material should also follow the lines of the folds and ruffles.
